Services

Hoof growth begins at the coronary band and continues down the hoof wall to the toe, serving as a protection layer for internal structures and bound to the coffin bone by the highly vascularized, “Velcro” layer called the laminae. Being so closely attached, it comes as no surprise that the hoof wall and coffin bone are directly related and influence one another.

We’ve all heard the saying, “No hoof, no horse”, and I firmly believe that through proper assessment of movement, diet, and lifestyle of your horse, we can work together to provide the tools to your horse to allow them grow a healthy and strong foundation for them to carry themselves on.

Barefoot Trimming

Fundamentals of Hoof Health and Trimming

I am currently operating as a Student Practitioner of Progressive Hoof Care Practitioners (PHCP). The levels of certification are described as the following according to the PHCP website:

Student Practitioners are not yet fully certified by PHCP, but with the support of their Mentors and colleagues, can do an excellent job caring for your horse’s hoof needs as they complete their training. Advanced Student Practitioners have completed Independent Study and are in the advanced phase of the training program. They are prepared to work on more difficult cases with the support of their Mentors and colleagues as they complete their training. Practitioners have completed their training and passed the final certification process.”

In addition to working extremely closely with my mentor, Jeannean Mercuri, on my clients as well as her own, the list of PHCP accredited courses I have completed are as follows:

For as long as many of us could probably remember, we’ve been told that horses need shoes in order to protect the hoof. Science has since proven time and time again, that not only do shoes not offer any protection to the hoof, but they also cause a shocking amount of damage to the vital structure its been thought to “protect”!

Luckily for us, but more importantly our horses, there are now many different brands of hoof boots. A product designed to guard the hoof from coming in contact with the ground, all while allowing the hoof to preform its essential and natural functions.

Hoof boots are invaluable in rehab cases and everyday use alike! We know that every hoof is as unique as each horse, and boots are certainly not one size fits all, that is why we are proud to offer a few brands of hoof boots in order to find the fit that works best for your horse.

Hoof Boot Fitting

Beneficial and Healthy Hoof Protection

Kinesiology tape (often referred to as KT Tape) is a therapeutic, elasticized tape used to support joints and muscles, increase blood flow, reduce swelling and so much more!

By strategically applying this tape to a horse, the tape will stick to the hair and give it a gentle lift from the hair follicle, which is located in the dermis, or second layer of skin. In giving the skin this lift from the subcutaneous layer, it will actually allow for the facia encasing the muscles to move more freely, and give the blood vessels in the surrounding areas more room to fill with blood, therefore increasing blood flow. KT tape also acts on the proprioception receptors and results in increased awareness of the area and postural stability.

Kinesiology Taping

Principles of KT Taping

As of April 2022, I have completed the Kinesiology Taping Practitioner Course presented by Sozo Equine, LLC. I am working on my case studies and presentation to reach full certification.

That being said, I am offering discounted KT taping services for 10 horses. Contact me today if you are interested in this limited time deal!
